Noah and the Ark - Part 3

In Genesis Chapter 8, we saw how Yahweh "remembered" Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock. He sent the dove out to search for dry land and, when the day came that the dove did not return, Noah knew the water had gone down and there was once again dry land. Noah came out of the ark with his sons and his wife and all their families. Noah built an altar to Yahweh and made offerings to Yahweh upon the altar. Yahweh smelled the pleasing aroma and said in His heart, "Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood." In the beginning of Chapter 9, Yahweh blessed Noah and his sons and gave them some very specific instructions. And He established His covenant with them saying, "I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth." Next, Yahweh gave a beautiful, beautiful sign of that promise:

"And Yahweh said, 'This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between Yahweh and all living creatures of every kind on the earth. So Yahweh said to Noah, 'This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth.'" (Genesis 9:12-17, New International Version)

What was the sign of the covenant? How long will this covenant last? Now, the next time you see a rainbow in the sky, remember what it is a sign of.

Didn't our Heavenly Father give us a beautiful sign to actually remind Himself of His promise? Do you really think Yahweh needed a reminder?
See if you can draw your own rainbow and hang it up as a special reminder for you.
This is the end of our story on Noah. Be sure to check back for the next story!
