Oh, Ancient Letters!

This one is not really a children's song, sung by children, but one we think they will enjoy. It's one way to learn the Paleo Hebrew Aleph-Bet (our "alphabet"--see where the word comes from?). Let us know if you enjoy it! The words are below the video and perhaps they can be printed out to follow along!

Oh, Ancient Letters!

1 )Aleph, the strong ox, powering through the day.
Bet, the house, where we gather and stay.
Gimmel, a foot, walking paths unknown.
Dalet, the doorway, where journeys are shown.

2) Hey, raised arms, breathing in life.
Waw, the peg, securing in strife.
Zayin, the plow, cutting through fields.
Het, the tent wall, division it yields.

Chorus

Oh, ancient letters, each with a sign.
From Aleph to Taw, in rhythm and rhyme.
In every symbol, stories unfold.
Mysteries and wonders from times of old.

4) Tet, a basket, containing within.
Yod, a hand, with the work to begin.
Kaph, an open palm, bending to greet.
Lamed, a staff, guiding our feet.

5) Mem, like water, chaos and flow.
Nun, a seed, where new life will grow.
Sin, like a thorn, both hate and protect.
Ayin, an eye, with wisdom to collect.

Chorus

Oh, ancient letters, each with a sign.
From Aleph to Taw, in rhythm and rhyme.
In every symbol, stories unfold.
Mysteries and wonders from times of old.

Bridge

Pey, an open mouth, to scatter and blow.
Tsade, a path, where we wander and go.
Quph, the horizon, condensing time's flow.
Resh, the head, where knowledge will show.

Outro

Shin, two teeth, pressing sharp and bright.
Taw, crossed sticks, marking our flight.
Oh, ancient letters, guide us each day.
With stories and secrets, lighting our way.

Chorus

Oh, ancient letters, each with a sign.
From Aleph to Taw, in rhythm and rhyme.
In every symbol, stories unfold.
Mysteries and wonders from times of old.
